Karla Martinez obtained the Gold Diploma in her Bachelor´s studies at the Instituto Superior de Arte (University of Arts), Cuba. Master’s Degree in Music Performance at the Reina Sofia School in Madrid with the prestigious professors Dimitri Bashkirov and Denis Lossev and Postgraduate degree at Liceu de Barcelona with Tensy Krismant.

As part of the “Danzi Group”, she received from Her Majesty Queen Sofía the recognition as the most outstanding student in the chamber music department. Winner of the competition María Clara Cullell in Costa Rica, Piano Competition Juventudes Musicales de Vilafranca del Penedés, and Piano Cicle de Primavera in Barcelona. Also awarded in the piano competition Amadeo Roldán y Musicalia de Cuba, L’Arjau and UNEAC. Karla has performed in the most important concert halls and music festivals in Cuba, and has played internationally, all over Europe and America. She has performed as soloist with Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional and Sinfónica de Oriente.

She is part of the chamber music ensembles: Dúo Ópalus, Dúo Yarey & Brises Ensemble.

Karla has worked with remarkable Cuban and foreign musicians, from all styles and genres like: The composer, guitarist and conductor Leo Brouwer, conductors Baldur Brönnimann & Ronald Zollman, Jose Antonio Méndez, the soprano Bárbara Llanes, the baroque oboist Alfredo Bernardini, the baroque music ensemble Ars Longa, the saxofonist Pedro Pablo Cámara, the jazz- trumpet Yasek Manzano and the songwriter Liuba María Hevía, and many more. She has recorded for the record label Colibrí, remarking the CD 20 Pianos, with music of Ernán López-Nussa, obtaining the big award Cubadisco. She developed her pedagogical career in La Habana conservatory Amadeo Roldan, and currently, apart of her recitals and concerts she is teaching at Centro Superior Musical Katarina Gurska in Madrid and currently works on her personal project Cuba: Contemporary Piano.
